A Vet Demonstrates How To Disbud a Baby Goat

March 28, 2018 by Aust Leave a Comment

Learn How To Disbud a Baby Goat in todays video!

Today we show you our little goat buckling being disbudded by our local large animal vet, Dr Carlson of Roxbury Animal Clinic – http://www.roxburyanimalclinic.com/.

Our little buckling is just a few weeks old, and so it is time to disbud the little guy.

Disbudding is the process of burning off the tissue that would grow horns on a buck.
Although not all feel that disbudding is a needed process, we have seen the negative side effects that horns cause goats, and we know how hard selling a goat with horns is!

Disbudding is a rough procedure, so instead of doing it ourselves, we have our vet come to the farm and do the disbudding. One MAJOR benefit to hiring a vet to do your disbudding is that the vet can put the goat under a mild anesthesia, reducing the pain for the goat, and making the process smoother, and more successful!
