Why I DID NOT WANT TO HOMESCHOOL OUR KIDS

August 14, 2020 by Aust Leave a Comment

LIVE SHOW TOMORROW MORNING ALL ABOUT HOW TO STOP VARMINTS FROM ROBBING YOUR HOMESTEAD… but first…

This may come to a surprise to you, if you have followed us for a while, but I (Aust) DID NOT WANT TO HOMESCHOOL OUR KIDS.

Growing up I knew a few kids that were homeschooled. Even my own sister was homeschooled for a few years.

I did not homeschool. I actually had a pretty good run through the public school.

When the time came for my kids to be schooled, I had 3 big things that held me back.

I think the 3 things that held me back from wanting to homeschool our kids were the same 3 things that keep most people from homeschooling…

I was worried

  • we could not teach as well as profesional teachers

  • we could not properly socalize our children without public shool

  • we could not fit teaching multiple kids a full education into our lifestyle

K finally convinced me to try it. Now, years later, we have 5 kids, all who are (or will be) homeschooled, and we LOVE IT.

We would never go back, and are excited to see so many people joining the homeschool ranks this year because of the pandemic.

(I mean, the pandemic is awful, but at least this is 1 good thing that comes as a result)

Are you one of those families about to take the leap?

We made a video that outlines HOW WE HOMESCHOOL and also provides a warning to those about to start…

If you have questions about homeschooling, be sure to leave them in the comments section of those videos, with the hashtag #askhomesteady and we will answer them in our upcoming Q&A.

How is your garden fairing this year?

I know most of you have faced this problem before!

You spend all spring preparing, planting, and caring for the garden.

The produce starts growing…

First you notice the snap peas, lettuces, and cucumbers!

The fresh greens are delicious!

Then before you know it the zucchinis take over.

Your’e leaving baskets full of zucchinis all over the neighborhood.

And just as you are about ready to start taking in the big harvest, the corn, tomatoes, you already have the most delicious salsa planned… devastation!

You find a thief has taken over the garden!

Not only your veggies, but your compost pile is a mess, and you found that the little varmint has even reached into your chicken coop and killed one of your prized laying hens 🙁

How can we stop the trash pandas, and all their buddies for that matter, from destroying our hard work on the homestead?

Tomorrow, Join myself, and Homesteady Pioneer Dakota as we talk about keeping raccoons, and all other varmints for that matter, out of our gardens, coops, and more!

Dakota and her family farm at Guardian Grove, a newly started homestead located in central Illinois. They strive to guard the rights of established homesteaders as well as for future generations. They also look to create a more sustainable, healthier lifestyle for not only their own family but their local community.

Dakota filled out a Pioneer Hotseat Application (CLICK HERE TO FILE YOUR OWN APPLICATION TO COME ON THE SHOW) to come on the show and have the pioneers come together to have her problem solved!

What is her problem? She writes…

“We have an extreme over population of raccoons that have decided to treat our garden as their late night snack bar. They have taken a specific liking to our corn. The younger raccoons seem to treat the stalks as a playground as the adults strip the stalks of the corn and eat it. Potatoes dug up, zucchini munched on. So far we have trapped and ‘removed’ 8 in the last week- all of different age ranges. There are corn and bean fields around us but apparently the corn in our garden is extremely appealing for some unknown reason. Our fencing this year is 5ft tall and pitiful to say the least. However, they have shown they will climb it and even chew threw it to get to the corn”

Sound familiar? Have you found a solution you would like to share with Dakota and the rest of us? Or do you have the same problem and you are hoping for some answers?

Homesteady Pioneers can join us tomorrow, Sat August 15 at 10 AM Eastern Time to discuss Varmints, and how to keep em away from your good stuff!

It will be a zoom call with all Homesteady Pioneers.
