New Car Shopping

February 12, 2016 by Aust Leave a Comment

Dreaming of a larger farm in the Country is fun.

Figuring out what Car we will need to upgrade to so we can tow a Travel Trailer, Livestock Trailer, or what ever else we need to pull, wile fitting out family of 6, that will not cost us $60,000, is not so much fun.

But it is our first Stepping Stone in our journey forward.

We’re going to be traveling as a family of 6 to our favorite states to try to figure out where we will be moving to. To avoid spending lots of money on hotels and motels along the way we have decided to buy and bring a Travel Trailer with us.

This means we need to be able to tow a travel trailer. Our current vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, is not able to handle this kind of weight.

So we need to upgrade.

At a quick glance it seems that only a Suburban, (or suburban like vehicle) will work.

THIS IS NOT GREAT. These SUV’s are VERY expensive. 60,000 for a newer modle.

Our van is only worth about 15,000. That means to  make our dream happen, we need to save a LOT more money.

Or find a different option.

What our future vehicle needs to be

  • seats 8
  • 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive
  • towing capacity at least 6,000 lbs

After doing some early research, we think we may be able to save a bit of money by purchasing a commercial style van with 4×4 capabilities. More research needs to be done, but at first glance it seems a used 4×4 van could be as cheap as $20,000. That is WAY more in our price range.

Stay tuned to this secret blog series you have stumbled upon.
