I (Evelyn) have been watching (and subscribed) to you for a while now and have been showing my husband your videos when I watch them around him. I have recently retired and now am we are diving head first into homesteading. We already own 4 acres and have wanted to do this but haven’t had the time or energy after work to do much. Now I’m all in, retirement funds are going into the farm and we are getting animals again… it’s time. I want a cow, lol yes I said it if wanted one for years but I believe I’m ready now. If anyone wants to see me they will have to come to me. Anyway I have got my husband to agree to build this chicken tractor with you, he is sure he could do it himself but I thought it would be fun for us to do this with. You and film it. Might even be funny.. We will see…

    Hi Austin,

My wife and I have recently moved into her inherited family farm – about 120 acres in central Pa. We really enjoy watching your channel and are hoping to begin documenting some of our homesteading as well. I’ve recently built one of John’s tractors and wanted to warn about the dimensions for part G being incorrect. You need to add an inch to the length for part G – 1’ 9 3/8” instead of 1’ 8 3/8” or else the lap joint will be incorrect.

Yeah, sorry! I figured it would be too late, but thought I’d try all the same. Unfortunately, I didn’t see your post until last night. Have fun!

This has been corrected in current versions of the guide.

I just built one of these over the weekend. John has a great design. My wife and I love watching both yours and his videos as we are starting to build our homestead leading up to my retirement in 2022. The below video are some of the questions I had and answered along the process of my build. May help others hoping to get started with pasture poultry.

How much did one tractor end up costing you?

I think each tractor cost me close to $300, I did overbuy a few items, and got a few new tools too, but they are great and I will pay for them with chicken over the years!

    Hi Austin,

Thanks for all the videos and help ghat you provide for us homesteaders!
Do you know if these tractors can be used for goats? And can you please remind me of the dimensions of these tractors?
    Thanks,
    Ellie

Ellie, that is a big it depends… If your goats are chewers and climbers, they might be hard on these tractors. I could see goats ripping the tarps by chomping on them and then jumping on top and bending them. BUT if you have smaller goats, or more mild one (does such a thing exist?) maybe it could work!
