Does Firewood Really Save You Money?

December 9, 2014 by Aust 2 Comments

does firewood save you money

Firewood. It heats you three times… or so they say.

What if I told you it heats you 7 times. And that it could save you THOUSANDS of dollars every winter? How is that possible?

Find out in this months episode of Homesteady, as we talk about firewood, stoves, inserts, pellets, and just about everything else you could think of that burns!

Great podcast. You’re producing one of the better podcasts on the web overall.

We heat with wood in a woodstove. There’s a propane furnace for backup so that I’m not chained to the house in the winter but we seldom use it. We own our splitter. It’s been no maintenance other than adding oil and gas. I split seven cords this year spread out over a couple of months. Owning the splitter lets me split when I have a little spare time. Renting would mean driving 60 miles (I live in the woods away from most everything.) and working around the rental company’s schedule.

Thanks Robin! Driving 60 miles would take renting off the ideas list for me in a heartbeat! And 7 cords a year is awesome! I think were eventually going to buy one, Mike seems to have convinced me that I am in the “should own” catagory :). Thanks for listening!
