Minerals are very important to the health of your animals. Recently we interviewed Cow Vet Cody Creelman and he suggested that you provide your cows constant access to good free choice loose multi-minerals. The problem with free choice loose minerals is that they can be wasted easily! Pour some mineral powder in a bucket and put it out for your animals it can be knocked over, rained on, and you will watch money wash away! We were recommended the Behlen Country Bull Mineral Feeder by the people we bought our cows from, and it has been AWESOME! Tough, durable, this thing can withstand the beating cows give it, and it keeps your minerals from being knocked over or washed away! Minerals are expensive. Keep them safe with this feeder!
If you have multiple dogs like I do, or just one who is hard on his equipment, you probably have had to replace a chewed or torn collar in the past. Now you can get one for free! Poppy is a collar killer, so this is now our go to collar of choice! The Lupine Pet Collar is guaranteed to last, and if it doesn’t send the pieces back to the company and they will send you a new one back… FOR FREE!
THIS ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IS LIFE CHANGING. I am not being dramatic when I say that. If you have livestock in the winter you know the struggle is real. Keeping their water full, and not frozen. You can run electric heat coils all winter long, and still wind up with frozen water on the coldest of nights. Plus you get to worry about mixing electricity and water and animals. And even when things work as they should you still get the big electric bill all winter long. The Bar Bar A Livestock Drinker is an electricity free, frost free watering system that allows your livestock to have access to on demand, temperate, clean water year long. The coldest of nights they will have water to drink. And in the summer? You still will have water on demand, but now it will be algae and mosquito larva free. Water is SO important for your animals. Free yourself up to do more on your homestead and stop fighting the water wars, instal one of these units in a fence line so multiple animals can access it and your life will be changed for the better forever. We recommend the pig model for anyone considering pigs, as all other livestock can use it, but it will survive the beating pigs give to anything around them.
If you are homesteading with babies and toddlers you know that at times you need to get something done but have your baby in your hands… Free those hands up with the Ergo Baby Carrier. This baby carrier is a one size fits all solution. K and I share the same one, and with a few quick adjustments either of us can carry the baby while cleaning out stalls, feeding the cows, or tossing hay! This baby carrier is durable, ours has lasted homesteading with 5 kids (every one of our kids has spent time in the same carrier while we got farm chores done!) doing heavy duty farm work. I like how easy it is to put on, and how the design keeps the kids weight in the right spots so you don’t feel like you (or the baby) is going to fall over at any moment!
I wear boots outside for about 9 months of the year. They work great when doing chores during mud season (9 months out of the year around here haha) but they can be a nightmare to take off when you come inside. (Especially if you are wearing a baby!). This year I purchased a boot jack to help take the books off for me, and honestly it makes me smile everyday when I come in from the barn. One little cheap thing I purchased that makes every morning a little bit easier! Totally worth the $15 you will spend to get one!
FINALLY… THE BONUS ITEM! This year we changed HOMESTEADY SWAG providers. We are working with an incredible homesteading family who is making all our homesteady clothing, and the products are awesome. The shirts, hats, and hoodies are all much better quality than they previously were, and at the same time all our clothing cost has gone DOWN! It isn’t often that you get better quality for less price. The best part? If you buy a Homesteady Shirt you help support this show! So help us keep this good thing going while rocking a sweet new Homesteady tee!
