How To Raise Pigs for Meat on the Homestead

March 24, 2017 by Aust 3 Comments

Raising pigs for meat is a great idea for most homesteaders. Every year we raise pigs for our own family and to sell to our local community.

Pigs require good infrastructure, constant water and feed, and good fencing. If you take good care of your pigs you can yield hundreds of pounds of pastured pork, which tastes so much better, and is so much better for you.

We discuss the economics of our pork operation, and how much will it cost per pound to raise pigs.

    Hello,
After hearing your thoughts regarding keeping a sow and boar year round, I was curious to know if you had looked into artificial insemination? This may allow you to keep the sow productive through the winter and would be less work than keeping the boar too.

Rob, for our goals buying feeders is the best way! For others AI may be a good option!
