Goats – Love em or Hate em?

October 8, 2016 by Aust Leave a Comment

I have noticed something funny. Screen Shot 2016-10-08 at 10.42.09 AM

Most homesteaders have a pretty strong opinion about Goats.

Some, all love. Some… Pure unfiltered hate.

Which side of the coin are you?

Goats are filled with personality. Despite their negative biblical comparison to the sheep, I find goats to be much more personable, and certainly more fun. But then there are the goat antics.

Goats get out of fencing. Goats jump on top of cars. Goats butt people. Goats run away.

And thats where the hatred comes from.

I have a Love/Hate relationship for goats.

I have owned them for 4 years. Almost every kind you can imagine. And some of them I have grown to love. But we certainly had our moments of pure anger towards them as well.

The anger mostly came from the antics. I covered lots of those in the first part of the goat episode, released a week ago.

If the story of escape goats and goat troubles, and the fact that they have only cost me money for the last few years didn’t scare you away from the idea of owning them, then you may be interested in this weeks podcast, all about how goats can actually earn a homesteader money!

Pioneers Learn the Goat Business Plan

This week we released an awesome pioneer’s only episode of the podcast, thoroughly explaining the business plan that Brittany Colebush (who is featured in the 2 part of the goat podcast episode) uses to make a living with goats.

Brittany shares the details on how a homesteader with a herd of around 10 goats could make around $30,000 in one year off their herd!

Let us know in the comments on our goat episode page!

And by the way, thanks for the AWESOME RESPONSE to last weeks question about whether of not you want to hear about hunting! The bulk of you seemed to be very interested in hunting!

So I will share my hunting stories from this fall.

For those of you who would prefer not to hear about it, don’t worry, I warn you in the subject of the emails so you don’t need to bother opening up those emails!

Enjoy the goat episode this week, and stay tuned, because there are some big announcements coming in the next few weeks regarding Homesteady!
